Information
and Communication Technology are increasingly becoming crucial part of the
education system. ICT has changed the style of functioning of the educational
system and its governance. The integration of ICT with teaching/learning
increases the education and productivity. ICT provides various opportunities to
educational learners and makes teachers aware of their new roles &
responsibilities in teaching and learning process. The use of ICT will change
many strategies by both teachers and students in learning process. The role of
ICT administration is recurring and unavoidable. ICT has enabled us to monitor
and evaluate what is learned, how it is learned, where learning takes place. A
fashionable saying was “the Internet changes everything.” The ICT changed the way of imparting
education in modern era.
On
the other hand, the condition in Indonesia is not as good as the development of
ICT in this world. Especially for teachers and all stackholders in Indonesia.
Teachers are usually “plunge” into
di
gital immigrant category. There are two kinds of category of teacher
in the use of ICT, digital natives and digital immigrants. Digital native
refers to those who were born in the era where technology innovations have
significantly affected social life thus enabling them to acquire the
technological skills naturally. As opposed to digital natives, digital
immigrants are people who were not born in the digital world but eventually
adopted new technology. As the result, they are unconfident in using ICT.
Besides that, in this digital age, information heavily flows through the
Internet, which makes Students can obtain information much faster without
having to rely on the teachers. Besides, teachers may also be a newcomer to the
pedagogical consequences that ICT may has in classroom interaction. When being
brought into classroom practices, ICT is not as simple as as a tool. Thus,
there are important consequences that may follow along with the integration of
ICT in classroom.
Other
factor which makes teacher’s resistance to ICT is the term teacher centred
might be changed into student centered because of the use of ICT for students
are as digital native. Students can easily look for everything by using ICT in
everyday life including in learning process. The term might be gone as soon as
possible. In fact, ICT for teacher is unavoidable because in the future, ICT
might be a must for teacher in transfering knowledge and facilitating sources
for their student.
